Environment and Natural Area
Seclusion on the political edge between East and West lasting for dozens of years allowed for emergence of untouched natural areas. Now, we are facing a challenge of creating harmony between regional development, economic growth and protection of environment. The quality of landscape can be a locality factor that allows for self-profiling from an economic point of view.
The common features of the bio-geographic region establish a starting basis for project initiatives in agriculture and in related small businesses. Around 70% of the EUREGIO cropland is being used for agricultural activities. Beside cereals mainly vegetables are grown here. The organizations of producing farmers have joined their forces to market their high-quality products. There are initiatives underway for development of organic farming, for usage of renewable raw materials and assurance of the environment quality in the region.
The natural preconditions also provide possibilities for leisure and recreational activities. National and nature parks mainly focusing on environmental tourism are the visiting card of the region. In the implementation of sustainable environmental co-operations there initiatives underway in areas of climate protection, renewable energy (solar, wind, geothermic, biomass) and in areas of energy saving and waste recycling.
