Wine – Culture – Tourism

The wine has not only provided the name for the Austrian part of EUREGIO. Wine production and wine tourism is becoming a big interregional program for tourism and economy. Because Weinviertel, South Moravia and Western Slovakia are the biggest wine producing regions of the Middle Europe. Co-operation and competition create optimal conditions for establishing of a Middle-European wine-destination around wine festivals, wine cellar alleys and wonder worlds of wine.
With Weinviertel DAC the Weinviertel has become the first region of Austria to acquire a regional quality certificate. The Marchfeld asparagus is an EU-protected brand. Two products speaking for a new experience of life in Weinviertel.

The search after common roots is being reflected in cultural and historical initiatives. The castles of Liechtenstein and Marchfeld as well as their counterparts on the Slovak side are becoming the top sightseeing destinations for those interested in culture. The village and farming life can be seen depicted in many Museums in Weinviertel, South Moravia and Western Slovakia.

The Amber Trail – an ancient trading route, now an international cultural road – crosses the region. This is a place where a large Middle-European cultural project from Adriatic see to Baltic see comes into existence. This initiative has its starting point in Weinviertel.

The geological location benefits the efforts of regions in area of wellness and spa tourism thus lending an additional profile to the classic holiday destination offering cycling, wine and culture.
