EUREGIO Youth Parliament
The EUREGIO Youth Parliament (EJP) gives the young people the opportunity to discuss the things that directly concern their lives and can be influenced by them. Through this exchange of experience the participants learn the situation and the problems of the young people from the neighbouring regions. At the same time they learn to identify the problems and to define cooperative solutions. The Youth Parliament is to be seen as an instrument for removing the physical borders, that should not allow the „mind barriers” to occur in the first place.
In the late summer of 2001 the first EUREGIO youth parliament meeting in the southern district town of Břeclav was held, where the future of the EUREGIO Weinviertel-South Moravia-West Slovakia from the viewpoint of the young people was discussed. In the following meetings held in Skalica and Hohenau/March more than 120 young people from Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic participated.
With the help of EJP the EUREGIO Weinviertel-South Moravia-West Slovakia can reach a high representation of young people in the cross-border project work in the field of youth work, education etc. The regular contact with schools and organizations enable the necessary permanent updating of knowledge and competence required by the rapid changes in the youth culture. Besides that the Youth Parliament provides for the regional politics a team of experts for areas concerning the young people. One representative of each country was elected „a speaker” and his/her task is to represent the interests of the young people in the EUREGIO teams of managers.
The EUREGIO Youth Parliament was awarded the EUREGIO Innovation Award 2003.
